Clinical Interests for Referring Providers
Dr. Olsen is a Professor of Radiation Oncology and serves as the Southern Colorado Division Head. He earned his medical degree and completed residency training at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri, where he also served on faculty from 2012-2016. He has been board certified in radiation oncology through the American Board of Radiology since 2013, and joined the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2016. He values time spent with patients and education regarding what to expect at each step of radiation treatment. Dr. Olsen has expertise in treatment of gastrointestinal, thyroid, and prostate/GU malignancies, in addition to application of stereotactic body radiotherapy/radiosurgery for a variety of cancer types. He has published over 50 peer reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and serves on national committees regarding incorporation of advanced imaging technology including MRI for radiotherapy delivery, development of national standards for GI malignancies, and the ASTRO Healthcare Advisory Council, which functions to improve safety of radiation delivery at clinics across the country. He currently serves as the GI Section Editor for the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, which is widely considered the most impactful radiation oncology medical journal.
Research Interest for Referring Providers
My research interests include trial development for novel approaches towards treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, in addition to application of modern radiotherapy techniques including stereotactic body radiotherapy and radiosurgery. I have published over 50 peer reviewed publications in these areas with interests across cancer subtypes.
