Clinical Interests for Referring Providers

My clinical interests include the medical and endoscopic management of the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and microscopic colitis.

Research Interest for Referring Providers

My research has been focused in inflammatory bowel diseases and pharmacoepidemiology. I have conducted studies assessing the safety of therapies in inflammatory bowel disease, in particular related to risk-benefit analyses assessing commonly used immunosuppressive medications in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. I am most interested in the impact of age and gender on the risk beneft balance of immunosuppressive therapies, as well as the positioning of new therapies in current treatment paradigms as they come to market in IBD. I am also involved in pharmacoepidemiologic research involving adhesion-related complications after surgery and examining the impact of antibiotic therapy on obesity in pediatric populations. My research experience includes the design and conduct of observational studies using large secondary datasets, validation studies to assess the viability and accuracy of specific datasets, and decision analysis including techniques such as Markov cohort analyses and discrete event simulation. I have developed particular skills utilizing The Health Improvement Network, a large secondary dataset derived from electronic medical records within the United Kingdom.
