Care Philosophy

My hope is to help our patients and their families navigate the often frightening prospect having a brain or spine problem that may require surgery. I hope to provide information and guidance to facilitate shared decision making and to help patients and parents feel as comfortable with our decisions as possible. I also love working with kids and helping them face, and conquer, the challenges of neurological illness.

Research Interests for Patients

My research interests focus in 3 areas: 1. Pediatric Brain Tumors - I assembled and lead the only multi center consortium in North America that focuses on the improvement of therapies for pediatric craniopharyngioma: Advancing Treatment for Pediatric Craniopharyngioma. We use tissue and clinical data to study gene expression and correlate this with potential available medical therapies. Further information regarding our consortium can be found at: https://www.childrenscolorado.org/pediatric-innovation/research/neuroscience/atpc-consortium/ 2. Hydrocephalus - I am the Children's Hospital Colorado site principal investigator for the Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network. This is a multicenter consortium that completes clinical outcomes research aimed at improving treatment for children with hydrocephalus: http://www.hcrn.org 3. Pediatric cervical spine disease. I am a member of the Pediatric Craniocervical Society, which is a small group of pediatric neurosurgeon who conduct research aimed at improving therapies for children with diseased of the cervical spine and occipitocervical region.
