Clinical Interest for Patients
My clinical interests apply to the broad field of Surgical Oncology with emphasis on Gastrointestinal Cancers (Esophagus, Stomach, Colon, Rectum), Melanoma, and Sarcoma. I am a firm believer in delivering a multidisciplinary care team approach designed to best suit the individual patient situation. I am also a strong believer in advancing medical knowledge through both clinical and translational research and actively participate in many national and local trials striving to improve cancer outcomes. I am particularly interested in developing new treatments that enhance the patients own immune system to fight cancer.

Care Philosophy
I aim to provide the best possible care taking into consideration the individual patient's specific cancer and treatment goals. Surgery is just one aspect of the team based integrated multidisciplinary care we strive to deliver.

Personal Interests
In my spare time, I enjoy living all of Colorado's adventures with my wife and two children.

    Dr. McCarter’s clinical interests focus on the surgical treatment of melanoma, sarcoma and gastrointestinal cancer. The practice of surgical oncology continues to evolve with the integration of multiple treatment options designed to best suit the individual patient situation. Dr. McCarter is a leading proponent of involving the patient in the multidisciplinary care process. He is committed to advancing medical knowledge through both clinical and translational research and is an active participant in many national and local trials. Current research interests include tumor induced immunosuppression in melanoma and targeted therapies for cancer. He leads investigator initiated clinical trials based on his laboratory studies to enhance a patient's own immune response to the tumor. The education of students, residents and future surgeons is a critical component of his practice.
